An unassuming gem in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, Siam Country has just about everything a lover of authentic Thai food could offer. Cozy and cheerful decor with deep red and gold walls, white table cloths, and real plants on the tables makes this restaurant a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. The extensive menu features common favorites, such as noodle dishes, tom yum soup, spring rolls, curries and spicy salads. They also offer some exotic Thai desserts not found at every restaurant, such as Thai custard and “banana cake,” a fruit and sticky rice concoction that makes a satisfying finish to a spicy meal.

Families with small children will find high chairs, but Siam Country does not offer a kid’s menu with the typical grilled cheese and chicken fingers. The taste buds of your little ones will determine whether to make it a family night or a special date night venue. If your brood includes adventurous eaters, they might enjoy the soft texture and peanut flavor of Siam Country’s chicken or tofu satay appetizers or even the chewy sweetness of the pad thai noodles. Another commendable feature for families who want to eat in or eat in a hurry, Siam Country’s website offers online ordering for carry out, express dining or delivery.

Thanks to astrophysicists we’ve discovered that the surface of the Sun reaches temperatures upwards of five thousand Celsius! This may seem hot but it is nowhere near the spicy, interstellar taste explosion that is Rosded Restaurant in Lincoln Square!

Located on West Leland Ave off of North Lincoln, Rosded serves up traditional Thai cuisine at prices that are not of this world! Try a succulent appetizer of Chicken Satay in their house-made peanut sauce or some vegetarian Spring Rolls if you’re more into terrestrial fare. For a second course they have a full range of traditional soups including a Yen Ta Fo that tastes like it could have been abducted from Thailand! For a main course try the fantastic catfish served in a sweet and spicy basil sauce or their mild Penang curry with tofu, a taste for those with an orbit further from the heat. And don’t forget to order a refreshing cucumber salad with your meal to cool off any flares of heat!

Rosded is quiet, out of the way, and won’t leave a void of space in your wallet. So the next time you’re on the Brown Line get off at Western Avenue and let your taste buds blast off at Rosded Restaurant!

If you want to find authentic Thai food in Chicago, unfortunately you have to do a little bit of digging. There is so much Thai food in America that has been watered down.

Here is how to find authentic Thai food in Chicago amongst the Americanized Thai food restaurants:

Look for people who came from Thailand at a later age: Those who left Thailand at an early age probably will not remember what real Thai food tastes like.

Issan is not considered Thai food in Thailand: In fact, there are many Thai folk who dislike Issan, so if you see it being served run the other way.

Thai food has an intensity of all flavors: Americanized Thai food restaurants will over emphasize spice in their food. You will not see the other flavors like: Sweet, sour, spicy and salty. Thai salads are always going to be spicy. If the salad isn’t spicy you should be asking questions. Also not all authentic Thai food will be spicy.

There are a lot of Americanized Thai restaurants in Chicago. So much that it can be hard to find authentic Thai food, but when you find it you will know because it will taste so much different from what you have ever tasted.
